Toby Waters

Wrestling

Toby Waters was born in Joplin in 1984, called Carthage home for 21 years, and was and is, as the record book proves, the most successful and decorated wrestler in Carthage High School wrestling history. His coach Bob Holman stated: “It was with unmatched skill, discipline, and a fighting spirit, that he cultivated his ‘refuse to lose’ attitude, and he rarely lost a match”.

Toby dedicated himself to winning at the highest level in High School Wrestling and as a result was a four time State medalist, winning the State Championship in 1999 and 2002. He won 95% of his matches with a career won-lost record of 161-8. Toby was a four-time Conference Champion, four-time District Champion, and four-time Sectional Champion. He holds many CHS records including the highest winning percentage, most wins in a career, fewest losses, only freshman State Champion, and many individual records.

After high school, Toby wrestled at Labette Community College in Parsons, KS and was a National Qualifier. After college he channeled the physical and mental skills he developed as a wrestler into defending the freedoms all Americans enjoy, and joined the United States Marine Corps. He has served two tours of duty in Afghanistan, one in Iraq, and at this writing is a member of an elite Special Forces unit, associated with the United States Special Operations Command.

In 2012, Toby was living at Camp Pendleton in California with his wife Sissy.
